Selfish driving.

Thoughts:

So, you're parking your Jaguar in Superquinn carpark. You decide to use up two spaces because you a) are totally selfish and don't care about anyone else on the road; b) are stupid; or c) are unable to perform the simple task of parking a car between two parallel white lines. Maybe you shouldn't be allowed on the public roads?

Thoughts:

So, you're parking your Mercedes in Shannon Airport carpark. You decide to block 2 spaces because you a) can't control the thing and shouldn't be driving it; b) are stupid; or c) are totally selfish and don't care about anyone else on the road. Everyone else around you seems to be able to place a car between 2 parallel white lines. It really isn't that difficult if you try.

Selfish driving.

Thoughts:

So, you're parking your Land Rover in Galway Regional Carpark, a carpark controlled by barriers that know how many spaces are left by counting the tickets issued at the entrance, and returned at the exit. You decide to use up 2 spaces because you a) can't control the thing and shouldn't be driving it; b) are stupid; or c) are totally selfish and don't care about anyone else on the road. Everyone else coming in to the carpark at capacity, possibly in a hurry with someone sick, think they have a space to go to, and circle fruitlessly past your "space" until someone else leaves and they can park. Shame on you.

Inconsiderate driving.

Thoughts:

So, you're looking for a parking space, and see this nice wide empty one beside the shop entrance. How handy! EXCEPT, it's a space for Wheelchair users only, and there is no such sign in your windscreen. Does that bother you? You don't look bothered as you jump out of the car and walk perfectly ably into the shop. You are a) stupid; b) blind; c) totally selfish and don't care about anyone else on the road.

Ignorant/selfish driving.

Thoughts:

So, you're driving along in the overtaking lane. There is a queue of people behind you waiting to overtake you. The inside lane is empty. You refuse to move over. You are a) stupid; b) completely unaware of the Rules of the Road and believe you are in the mythical "Fast Lane"; c) totally selfish and don't care about anyone else on the road.

This behaviour may well deserve its own specific category, as so many people seem to be ignorant of the section in the Rules of the Road that describes driving where there are multiple lanes.

A brief excerpt:

Using lanes properly

It is very important that you understand the purpose of each lane on a motorway. To help explain how and when to move from one lane to another, each lane is given a number. The picture below shows that lane 1 is the lane nearest the hard shoulder. This is also known as the inside lane. On a two-lane motorway, the lane nearest the central median is lane 2 (also called the outside lane). On a three-lane motorway, this lane is lane 3.

Lane 1

The normal "keep left" rule applies. Stay in this lane unless you are overtaking.

Lane 2

On a two-lane motorway, use this for overtaking only and move back into lane 1 when you have finished. You may also use this lane to accommodate traffic merging from the left.

On a three-lane motorway, you may stay in this centre lane while there is slower moving traffic in lane 1.

Lane 3

If you are travelling on a three-lane motorway, you must use this lane only if
traffic in lanes 1 and 2 is moving in queues and you need to overtake or accommodate merging traffic. Once you've finished overtaking, move back to your left and allow
faster traffic coming from behind to pass by.

Thoughts:

So, you're driving around Castletroy while on the phone. Instant 2 points please, Garda. You need a fine to help educate you. You obviously care little about authority as you can barely see out your side window because of the large DON'T PARK HERE sticker. You are a) stupid; b) totally ignorant; c) totally selfish and don't care about anyone else on the road.

Thoughts:

So, you're driving along the Corbally road out of Limerick, and you see someone halfway across a zebra crossing with a small child. You decide to drive straight through the crossing, forcing the poor parent to grab their child to prevent them being killed by the front of your car. You are a) dangerous; b) very dangerous; or c) totally selfish and quite prepared to disregard the rules of the road to the extent that you are prepared to play chicken with a child in your 1 tonne metal killing machine, you coward and bully.
